Atallan Beyond, by Seth Madaris
Book Review - 5/5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ ⭐- YA, Fantasy, Portal, Epic
Atallan Beyond started with recap, but it was well executed, in my opinion. It felt focused on what I needed and nothing more, while launching quickly into the story style and craft jokes that I fell in love with.
This story continued everything I loved in the first but increased the stakes as a sequel should. The battle scenes were more numerous with more descriptions. These descriptions put this book solidly into the teen category for me rather than middle grade. However, I will also say that these descriptions are no worse than the majority of video games, and unlike video games, the description had a purpose in showing Geoffery the difference between fiction and truth.
This addition to the story built more of Geoffery's character change and the respect his comrades have for him. Pieces of the puzzle felt like they were falling into place, all while Seth CRUELLY left me with a frustrating NEED to read the next book.
Disagree with my review? Please tell me why. My ears are turned.
"Besides, what type of story would this be if he made it this far into the adventure only to totally bail with the worst literary cop-out ever… the 'it was all a dream’ trope. Ugh. Who could imagine?"
